GUWAHATI: The toll from the current wave of floods in Assam rose to 60 after seven more deaths were reported on Saturday . Twenty-four districts remained affected by the floods even as the water level of the Brahmaputra and its major tributaries showed signs of receding at several places.
Two of the seven deaths were reported from Sivasagar, and one each from Morigaon, Bongaigaon, South Salmara, Sonitpur and Jorhat districts.
” Unlike in the past, people no longer come to relief camps but prefer to stay back at home. Reaching out to these people in their villages with relief is a challenge. But there is no lack of will on our part,” state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
