Actor and activist Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt following a conflict over their children, the celebrity news website reported on Tuesday.
Jolie filed the legal documents for the divorce on Monday citing “irreconcilable differences”, the report said. She sought physical custody of the couple’s six children (Pax, Zahara, Maddox, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne), with visitation rights for Pitt.
The report said Jolie wanted Pitt to have “only joint legal custody” of the children, and not “joint physical custody”.
Sources connected to the couple as saying that Jolie’s decision to file for divorce was connected to the “way Brad was parenting the children” and that “she was extremely upset with his methods”.
The report also said there was “no alleged ‘third person’” involved in the matter (after rumours were heard that Brad was cheating on Angelina with French actor Marion Cottilard) and that Jolie’s decision to file for divorce was “solely over Brad’s interaction with their children”.
Jolie, who is being represented noted divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, is not asking for spousal support. She listed their date of separation as September 15.
The couple had been together since 2004 and married in August 2014.
