India-China LAC standoff: NSA Ajit Doval made China pullback one kilometre from Galwan Valley 0 1812

Indian and Chinese troops have been clashing in the frontline of LAC for quite some time. Tensions started back in April when Chinese army was reportedly seen moving ahead in various strategic locations along the LAC. When multiple talks at the military level failed, clashes happened between the troops that turned violent.

Only after the National Security Adviser held talks with the Chinese foreign minister, the Chinese army has initiated disengagement of troops from the Galwan Valley. The representatives have reportedly shared communication regarding recent developments in the Western Sector of LAC. After the talks, NSA Ajit Doval is reportedly monitoring the situation alongside the Indian Army at the Line of Actual Control.

In the telephonic conversation, both sides agreed that the Line of Control should be “strictly respected and observed”. LAC defines the border between India and China, and both parties should avoid any unilateral action that alters its situation. The two-hour conversation initiated by NSA Ajit Doval pressurised Chinese Army to begin disengagement of troops immediately. After the mutual agreement, tensions at the India-China border are likely to reduce in some time soon.

Many sources revealed that China had withdrawn troops by at least one kilometre. Further, they have dismantled the temporary structures that were developed in the Galwan river valley in Ladakh after April. It was the place where Indian soldiers were involved in a brutal clash with Chinese soldiers on June 15, 2020; that resulted in the death of 20 Indian soldiers. It happened after both parties agreed to complete disengagement of troops along the LAC followed by de-escalation from border areas to promote peace. The only way peace talks can continue is when soldiers of both countries bring their forward post back to April status. As per sources, both armies have pulled back to create a buffer zone between them.

It is important to note that this special talk was held two days after honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a surprise visit to frontline soldiers, and thanked them for their service to the nation. He addressed the Indian army and stated that any act of expansionism by expansionist forces should not be tolerated.

By now, the top commanders of both nations have talked in three rounds, and the results have been inconclusive. The third round of discussions happened last week in the Chushul region, on the Indian side of LAC. Sources said that there would be many more rounds of talks at diplomatic and military levels to generate a positive solution over the LAC issues.

The efforts made by Ajit Doval has opened gates for further discussions between the officials of both countries. According to the statement made by the government of both countries, the talks between the representatives of both nations are likely to continue. The disengagement process on the ground level will depend on China’s moves. One by one, both armies will settle back and eventually, tensions will drop.
